Students protest at BU campus



India: University students protested in the Barkatullah University (BU) premises on Tuesday demanding conducting examinations.

More than 100 Master of Arts (MA) students from various colleges of State capital, agitated at the university demanded that their remaining examinations be conducted soon. Examinations of students have been postponed due to the university employees’ strike.

Students raised slogans against the university administration and demanded declaration of examination schedule and cancellation on time. Vikas Bhandari, a third-semester student of MA Political Science said, “Our examinations have been postponed thrice in last two weeks by the university administration without notifying the students. Political science, economics and sociology examinations were scheduled for Tuesday, but when all the candidates reached the examination centre they were informed that the examinations have been cancelled.”

He further said, “When we tried to talk to the university administration we were not allowed to enter the administrative block. Students are in uncertainty as when the examinations will be conducted. Earlier, students came to know schedule of examinations just hours before the examination.” “The demands of the university employees are genuine, but the students want that at least a tentative datesheet of the examination be declared,” added Bhandari. State University Officers Association General Secretary B Bharti said it is not possible that students were not notified regarding cancellation of examinations. University issued notices on university website that all examinations are cancelled from December 10.

Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh University Employees Union General Secretary Avinash Burbure informed that the Higher Education department Principal Secretary and Commissioner have invited the employees’ union office-bearers for discussion over the demands on Wednesday. It is expected that strike may be called off after the meeting.
