Chile sends high school students to New Zealand

Study abroad initiative sends 500 students abroad, aims to increase global competitiveness, improve English language skills.

Economic Minister Pablo Longueira affirmed on Thursday the government’s commitment to finance a study abroad program in New Zealand for Chilean high school students, hoping to increase the country’s presence on the global market.

Within the next year, the program, titled “Pingüinos sin Fronteras” (Penguins without Borders), plans to provide 500 Chilean high school students aged 14 to 17 with the opportunity to study in New Zealand.

Longueira told El Mercurio on Thursday that, over the course of six months, the students will learn English while simultaneously learning about different cultures.

“The idea is to enhance the quality of Chilean students by having them study in New Zealand, thus raising the competitiveness of our country,” Longueira said.
