Atletico Madrid agree deal for Barca striker David Villa

Barcelona have agreed to sell striker David Villa to La Liga rivals Atletico Madrid, the Catalan club announced Monday, subject to the agreement of personal terms and a medical.

Atletico will pay 2.1 million euros up front for the 31-year-old Spain international, a fee that will rise to a maximum of 5.1 million euros over the next three seasons should Villa remain with the Madrid club.

The deal also gives Barca the right to 50 per cent of any sell on fee in the future, the club said in a statement.

Villa has played 119 times for Barcelona since moving from Valencia in a 40 million euro deal in 2010, scoring a total of 48 goals in all competitions for the Catalans. He is also the Spanish national side's all-time leading scorer, having netted goals 56 times for his country.

However, he struggled to hold down a regular first team place at the Camp Nou last season and has been linked with moves to numerous clubs in recent months.
