Free school 'axed' just two months before opening day

Michael Gove’s free schools policy was hit by fresh controversy today after it emerged that funding for one of the flagship institutions was being pulled just 10 weeks before it was due to open.
The Fulham Boys School was told on Tuesday that it could not open as planned because of a row over buildings – leaving almost 100 pupils without a place for September.
It emerged that 84 boys had already taken part in “transition days” at the new school and even bought uniforms in preparation for the start of the academic year.
The school, the first all-boy free school to be approved, had also passed a pre-opening inspection from Ofsted in recent months.
It was claimed that parents were now facing a “frantic scramble” to find an alternative school in the next two months.
