QUETTA: A medical student has been arrested on the charge of making an attempt to rape a patient admitted to the Bolan Medial College Hospital.

According to reports, the fourth-year MBBS student administered the patient – a girl in her early twenties – an injection to make her unconscious, and tried to sexually assault her in the orthopaedic ward on Thursday night.

But the girl offered resistance and raised a hue and cry, drawing attention of other patients and their attendants.

The student escaped when people rushed to rescue the girl.

Lawyers help rape suspect flee court

The Brewery Road police have registered a case under section 354 of the Pakistan Penal Code (rape attempt).

Meanwhile, Balochistan Health Minister Rehmat Saleh Baloch has ordered an inquiry into the incident and constituted a three-member committee to conduct the probe.

The committee -- headed by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital Dr Masood Nausherwani with the deputy medical superintendent and a resident medical officer as its members — has been directed to submit report in three days.
