Stephen Hawking has set the deadline for humans to escape the planet to a mere 100 years, according to a revelation from an upcoming documentary.
“Expedition New Earth,” is due to air on BBC in which Hawking has warned of the threats of climate change, overdue asteroid strikes, epidemics, nuclear war and population growth and explored ways to move to a new planet when needed.
"Professor Stephen Hawking thinks the human species will have to populate a new planet within 100 years if it is to survive," the BBC said in a statement.
Earlier in a speech at Britain’s Oxford University Union, the British physicist had said that the human race can't "survive another 1000 years without escaping beyond our fragile planet."
The scientist has also several times raised alarm over artificial intelligence making machines exponentially powerful and causing a possible end to the human existence.
"Once humans develop artificial intelligence, it will take off on its own and redesign itself at an ever-increasing rate," Hawking warned in recent months. "Humans, who are limited by slow biological evolution, couldn't compete and would be superseded."
