A 12-member team comprising young scientists from Pakistan won silver medal at the International Genetically Engineered Machines [IGEM] competition held in Boston, United States on Monday.
''The IGEM team had developed a project called ''Reporter Fish'' by building DNA circuits which can detect metal contamination in fresh waters by changing the color of its structure and-
Alerting those who deal in the fishing business,'' Liaison Coordination of CECOS University Sohaib Tanveer told The Express Tribune.
The team, comprising two girls and 10 boys, left for Boston the other day to compete in the international competition related to synthetic biology.
The team was hosted by Institute of Integrative Sciences and Integrative Biosciences of CECOS University of IT and Emerging Sciences Peshawar and supported by-
Khyber PakhtunKhwa's Directorate of Science and Technology.
''The project will have a direct impact on fish farmers and will also help in in keeping the fish in good health for human consumption,'' Dr. Faisal Khan, who heads the CECOS's Biosciences lab,said.
