Tottenham Belong With Europe's Best, Says Manager After Real Thrashing

Tottenham Hotspur outclassed defending champions Real Madrid 3-1 in an emphatic display on Wednesday night at Wembley.

Dele Alli scored two goals and Christian Eriksen added third before Ronaldo scored a consolation goal. Tottenham have qualified for the knockout stage with two games still remaining in group stage.

This was Real's only group stage loss in the past five years and Spurs' first win against the Spanish giants at the sixth attempt.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino praised his side's quality and said they now belong with the best clubs in Europe:

"We've qualified and we're where we want to be. We're in the next round of the Champions League.

"The most exciting thing - what motivates me the most - is that we keep going as a group and this club can achieve important things.

"You've seen today that Tottenham is a big team. We are starting to believe in our potential and that we can compete on a physical and mental level wit the top teams.

"We now belong with the best in England and Europe."

Manchester City also qualified for the last 16 after overcoming Italian league leaders Napoli 4-2.

City striker Sergio Agüero became the highest club scorer by registering his 178th goal for the club moving one ahead of Eric Brook.
