BUDDHA SCULPTURE STOLEN DURING PRAYERS

Couple caught on CCTV carrying out theft while devotees offer prayers at the temple.

Geroge Town : A reclining Buddha sculpture worth over RM 10,000 was stolen from the Penang Buddhist Association in Jalan Anson near here while-

Several devotees were offering their prayers.

Northeast district police chief yesterday said  that one of the devotees alerted the temple staff that the  foot-long white marble sculpture was missing from the altar at the main prayer hall on Dec 20.

On checking the closed circuit television [CCTV]  at the temple, the associations secretary discovered that a couple had stolen it.

''The CCTV recording shows a couple behaving suspiciously and putting it in the bag before fleeing in a car,'' he said in a statement yesterday.

A police was lodged on Dec 20. Police are looking for the couple
