THE LEGENDARY GHALIB

The world remembers the great Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Ghalib, born on 27 December 1797.

Google’s latest Doodle also honored the most prominent Urdu poet.

Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan lived through the late Mughal Empire and used his pen-name as Ghalib meaning 'conquerer'.

His poetry mainly revolved around romance, love and sadness. He is celebrated in Pakistan, India for his poems called Ghazal and the region also learned from his letter writings.

Ghalib was born in Agra and migrated to New Delhi where he lived for the rest of his life.
The poet had an arranged marriage at the age of 13, but none of his seven children survived beyond infancy. He struggled financially, never had a regular job.

The tragedies translated into his poetry as he expressed the philosophies of life.
