INDIA STUDENT SUICIDE STATS

India: One student commits suicide every hour according to data compiled by the ministry of home affairs.

Since 2014, over 26,000 students have killed themselves in the whole country.

In 2016 9,474 killed themselves - 1,350 in state Maharashtra the highest, followed by 1,147 in West Bengal and 981 in Tamil Nadu.

Exam failure was the main cause of student suicide, almost a quarter of the cases.

With student stress at its peak the country of 1.3 billion has fewer than 5,000 psychiatrists and only 2,000 clinical psychologists.
