Within just over a day of its launch, the Immigration Department's Maid Online System has registered 25, 719 hits, with 702 employers sending in applications for foreign domestic helpers.
The page [http://maid-on-line.imi.gov.my] started operating on Monday
The system was designed to make it easier for employers to apply for permits for foreign domestic helpers quickly, accurately and at cost-efficient rates.
The cost of hiring a maid using the system is about RM 1,600 to RM 2,500 which includes levy, deposit and processing fee, among others.
During the tabling of the 2018 Budget in October, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced that the government would allow employers to hire foreign domestic helpers directly from nine source countries without having to go through agents.
The countries are:-
.-Indonesia
.- Thailand.
.- Cambodia.
.- Philippines.
.- India
.- Siri Lanka
.- Vietnam
.- Laos
.- Myanmar.
